The lens reviewed here is the EF 24-105/4L IS USM. This lens has a very useful range of focal lengths, probably more useful then the EF 24-70/2.8L. At 24mm the lens is a true wideangle. 24mm is one of my favorite wideangle focal lengths (in fact before I bought the 24-105/4L, the 24/2.8 prime was probably my most used wideangle).

The Canon EF 24-105 f/4L IS lens is weather sealed without a filter, so you don't need it for weather proofing. If you are shooting digital, the camera already has built-in UV filtering, so you don't need additional filtering. If you want physical protection, get the thickest filter you can find and live with the vignetting.

The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM ($999.99) is a pricey lens in the company's premium line of L-series glass. Its design is appealing on paper: a 4.4x zoom with a maximum f/4 aperture throughout
